MONTREAL, CANADA—Make-A-Bridge is proud to announce its partnership with the 9th Student Popsicle Stick Bridge Building Competition at the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal from February 19 to 21, 2011. This unique event pits different teams of high school and college students against each other not only in building a strong, but a beautiful, bridge solely out of popsicle sticks, toothpicks, white glue and dental floss!
Some of the contest’s technical requirements include:
— The unsupported span must not exceed 1,000 mm.
— The maximum height of the bridge, including its supports, may be no more than 500 mm.
— Its maximum width must not exceed 225 mm.
— It must weigh no more than 3 kg. If it is less than 1 kg, its resistance factor will be calculated using a weight of 1 kg. The supports are part of the structure and are included in its weight.
The OXO team from Dorval Jean XXII High School took top prize at the PontPOP 2010 competition with a popsicle stick bridge that withstood a load of 1855 kg. For additional information on this event, please visit the PontPOP ÉTS official site at http://pontpop.etsmtl.ca/
